I have the chance of acquiring a set of external jaws for my 3 jaw chuck. Now, the originals (internal jaws) are marked and always live in the same home. The "new" ones will have lived on another chuck and obviously any markings on them will have no bearing on my chuck. Am I likely to suffer an accuracy problem with buying and using these jaws?
Obviously, these are for the same diameter and make of chuck.
Thanks!
Ken

The 1,2,3 stamped into each jaw should correspond to your chuck. The position of each jaw is based on where it sits on the scroll. If the jaws are from the same manufacturer, they should fit the scroll the same way.

Where you may have differences is in jaw and scroll wear. Since the jaws are usually harder than the scroll, the scroll wear and movement will determine accuracy.

Here's a pic of some jaws. The jaws are numbered 1,2,3 from top to bottom. Notice the tooth offset. This offset is what determines where the jaw fits into the chuck, based on the position of the scroll.
