Just so it is known, I get very confused when it comes to insert tooling. Can someone tell me if this insert will fit my boring bar. Bar I have is a sclcr that takes ccmt insets in a 32.5x size. I would like to try some of these ccgt inserts for aluminum work. Will this insert work with the bar I have, I don't quite understand the code on it. http://www.ebay.com/itm/CCGT-3-2-AS-IC20-CARBIDE-INSERT-ISCAR-5540018-/321614141910?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ae1b259d6

Here should be the same insert where you can see that code on the box http://www.ebay.com/itm/CCGT-3-2-AS-IC20-ISCAR-10-INSERTS-FACTORY-PACK/190755215619?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%2 6asc%3D29310%26meid%3Da1314a7763734f2eb8d7d95f9405 db29%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D3216 14141910&rt=nc

Thanks.

Have a look at this sight. I think it gives details of a lot of different inserts.

Yes they are for aluminum. They have a very positive rake angle and are very sharp, I even use them now and then on my sclcr style boring bar for light finishing cuts on ferrous metals. They are interchangeable with the ccmt inserts for mounting size at least.
Below a link from ISCAR showing dimensions and grade.

Also check this additional link in order to help you decipher insert sizes. The chart linked to will also help with cross referencing ANSI to ISO sizes. Various insert grades are of course proprietary to each manufacturer.

Thanks, the iscar link helped me figure out it would work. The carbidedepot site has a lot of good information but still left me confused on how to read the code on those inserts.

This is one of the myriad reasons I dislike Iscar products. Those are ANSI standard CCGT32.52 (ISO CCGT09T308) inserts and they put their own screwy nomenclature on them so if you bought and Iscar holder you would think (if you're ignorant about it) that you have to use Iscar inserts.

I buy anyone but theirs.
