Every so often I need to balance various rotating machine parts, shafts, impellars etc.

My most common need is for things 20-24" in diameter to a speed of 3600-3800 rpm.

My most recent was today, fabricated steel impellar, much more difficult than cast, anybody who would put a 1/4" weld fillet on both sides of a 10ga thick plate(seal welded btw)is got to be paranoid.

I turned up a mandrel and used a set of grinding wheel balancers, spin it,wait for stop, add wieght to top side, spin it etc etc, really sucks.

If you are looking for a good quality balance, you can try a vibration analyzer with the balancing firmware. There are some old CSI 2110 units floating around that would be perfect for what you are looking to do. Most motor shops use these units or the newer versions. Expect to pay about $1000 for the 2110.

Since you only need it on occasion, you might be able to find a local motor shop that can balance it on their test stand.
