If you want it bad enough, there are freight forwarding companies that will pick-up, pack and arrange shipping. Same holds true for the lathe in Cali. You don't always have to be able to get get it yourself. Sometimes, it's even cheaper that way.

I guess I could put in a bid and take the shipping into account, and if I get it great....

I noticed yesterday that there is also a 13x60 Dean Smith and Grace on offer. They warn that it weighs 7300 lbs.
All of those machines, although they appear to have been well cared for, are 50 years old. And all have 600 volt motors.
I suspect that they came from the National Research Council.

AAAAARGH...ever want to kick yourself, hard?

Not paying the attention I should have to these (I do more often than not check every other day or so), instead of sitting at home doing nothing today when I had the day off I could have been viewing equipment...viewing was only today and tomorrow, and, OF COURSE, I work tomorrow. Wonder if there is a way?

I'd bid anyway. When will machines like this hit the auction block in your area again? Bid based on what you can see.

If it is any help, in the GC Surplus web site, there is a section labeled "what has sold." Here is the selling price of EVERY machine for at least this current year. For example, four 16x30 Standard Modern lathes sold in Dartmouth NS about a month ago. These will give an idea of what people are paying. There is only about 12 hours left.
