Does anybody know where I can get a MT3 non reversing tapping chuck kit with clutch that doesn't cost a mint?
There's plenty of reversing tapping chucks but they are exey and bulky, I'm looking. For a smallish one to out in my mill it lathe.

Not sure of quality, but Grizzly had something a year or so ago, it was a smaller MT, not sure if it was a 2 or 3.

The unit was rather small in dia and looked to be around 4" long.

A Bilz tapping chuck would work. You can get them in MT. The tap holder itself has a clutch. It is a quick change chuck. You buy a holder for each size tap you use.

Now the price might be a game stopper unless you could find a used one.

For non reversing you really want a tension compression style holder otherwise any difference in rpms vs feed can break the tap or pull it out of the chuck.

However, McMaster Carr sells Morse Taper split collets to hold taps and I used one with no problem holding a 5/8-11 tap going 2" deep in cast iron on a CNC with ridgid tapping. They are easily the cheapest way for a single tap size.

Sorry about the last line in my original post, must of been drunk. I meant to say "I'm looking for a smallish one for my mill or lathe that both have MT3 in the quill and tailstock"
