View Full Version : Help wiring Anaheim Auto MBL536 driver board

I have a couple of these driver boards and I'm trying to test them to see if they will work. Below is a diagram.
I think I use the upper diagram marked JP1=2-3. I checked the inside and that is how it is set.

Here is a link to the user manual: http://www.anaheimautomation.com/manuals/stepper/L010149%20-%20MBL536%20Users%20Guide.pdf

First, I'm trying to connect a 4-wire stepper motor to this driver board. Is this possible? I have been leaving
COM 1,3 and COM 2,4 blank, connected to nothing. Do I leave it blank or jumper it some how.

I have worked with Anaheim driver boards before and they always seem to have their own protocol when it comes to
naming their terminals. On the MBC12101 they jumper CLOCK+ and DIRECTION+. Then we attach 5VDC or common to CLOCK+. STEP to CLOCK- and Direction to DIRECTION-. Most driver boards already have terminals
marked 5vdc, step, dir.

On the MBL536 the CLOCK and DIRECTION terminals are well marked. But, where to I connect the 5vdc or common wire?

I have tried everything and beginning to wonder if I need a 6 wire stepper motor.

I have contacted Anaheim Automation but they have yet to reply. Could be the MBL536 is old and know longer supported.

Any ideas will be appreciated.

Usually if they don't give a diagram for 4 wire steppers then the drive is only for 6 wire. It's a cheap design for unipolar (6 wire) motors.

I think you will need an optocoupler to interface to whatever you want to drive it with.

Finally contacted tech support. Those driver boards are for unipolar motors and of know use to me. They are going into the trash
unless someone wants them. They came from an Ebay bundle purchase I made a long time ago that included the MBC12101 driver board. The MBC12101 still made the Ebay purchase worth while. Just not as good as I thought

Probably nothing wrong with those boards, like you say they just need a different motor. Probably others of us that could make use of them just fine.

I don't imagine they would would with 4 wires because each of the 4 outputs is feeding a coil to common.

Where are you located and how much to ship to South Texas?

Those are nice boards but they are working their way closer to the trash every hour. I would guess $10 or $15 would get them to
Texas. I'm 50 miles West of Chicago. PM me your address and I'll get them out today. I bought 2 Chinese driver boards on Ebay yesterday for $7 each, FREE shipping. They are fine for what I'm doing so why mess with the 536 boards.
