Just curious. JR

You suspect someone of sock-puppeting?
I have a fairly good idea of who you are implying and I have my suspect as to who has their hand in the sock.
Isn't me, that's for sure. I'm too busy trolling a 3D printing forum on Facebook. Ain't got time to troll more than one internet venue these days, I'm a busy man. :PThis is the ending.... still your need is driven on (driven on) as we trigger one more bomb...

In aviation transponders (the device that purports to identify you on ATC screens) the ident is dialed in by the pilot. A blackhat pilot or flying idiot can dial up anything including a squak code assigned to another aircraft. Air traffic controllers use the term "squawk 1200", for example, to tell you to dial the 1200 ident code into your transponder. That is the default ident for aircraft flying under visual flight rules, and indicates your traffic controller facility is handing off their responsibility to you.

Under the new "Next Gen" transponder standards that will be mandatory for all aircraft in 2020 called ADS- B, the transponder will have a unique digital identifier so that the FAA will know exactly WHO you are.
Lots of aircraft have them already including mine.
You can track any aircraft if you know it's tail number or flight number.
Just log on to www.flightaware.com
Problems is you leave a trail of "bread crumbs" everywhere you go. Even if you are not under an IFR flight plan.
The privacy bugs don't like this and say that is another loss of our freedom.
I developed the first general aviation transponder under contract to the FAA back in the 50s and never imagined it would develop to where it has today.

You can track without the new transponder. When I bought a Cummins Dodge in Wisconcin Rapids 5 or 6 years ago showed up. 28 minutes in the Bonanza & 5.5 hours in the Dodge. That's what I loved about my Tcrafts no transonder & I could still fly into anywhere I wanted because it came with no electrical system so I was a UFO low & slow with IFR, I follow roadsLast edited by flylo; 02-22-2016, 09:32 AM.

They were supposed to require the new trasponders I think 5 years ago but the US extended it but not Canada I thought. I have the Loran out of "Glamorous Glennis" a plane Chuck Yeager named for his wife. I took it out of the Bonanza when I bought it. It's still worth nothing but now I can't throw it away

Geez, do Lorans still work? I thought they killed the signals years ago. I still have one out of my long-gone boat. That thing saved my bacon a few times on Lake Erie while returning from the islands at night. GPS and Radar were just coming into affordable options back then.

With gps so easily jammed or spoofed they are very reluctant to switch off the loran system. With a ten meter accuracy on the new receivers they're not bad on open ground, the city is a bit harder.
Also with criminals using gps jammers against tracking devices the police are nervous about keeping track of their own vehicles.
Since bad guys are unlikely to carry around 500kW transmitters and 300ft towers loran is very reliable.
