    Magic, anyone??

And yes, it has machining content. This is a totally new one on me. I got home from a job this afternoon and my wife said I had three phone calls today from someone desperately trying to contact me. I didn't recognize the name that popped up on the phone, so I called the number to see what was up. It turns out that one of the people who work at the shop where I buy a lot of my tooling has a side occupation as a magician. He has a show tomorrow, and as he was trying out all his props he discovered that one of his favorite stunt props was broken, and he needed a 1 mm hole drilled in the end of it. Once he had the hole drilled it could be repaired with a piece of fine wire. I said sure, bring it over. I have a dozen 1 mm drills, and was able to drill the required hole with only one (didn't break it) and fix it with a piece of .80 mm wire. I have repaired and built many things in the last 69 years, but I think this is the first time I've been called on to help a magician!!!

      That's cool Brian.

Did you see the prop closely enough to figure out the trick? Did he say what the common name of the trick was?

Yea, I think the magic just might have been finishing an emergency job and not breaking the drill, which is the kind of thing that usually happens to me in a pinch.

One of my very first jobs as a kid was working in a magic shop. Hidden down an alley with no signs was a black door. Inside was the shop. It was cool working there that summer. I didn't make much money because I took most of my pay in tricks and special playing cards etc. I did learn how to run a Heidelberger printing press.
