HF is selling air operated jacks so cheaply that it is hardly worth building one.

I put an HF one on my 20 ton hyd. press and it works fine. It is a bit slow compared to a hydraulic pump with electric motor, but gets the job done.

Yeah, build your air powered hydraulic pump first then we'll talk.

I bought a 20ton a few years ago when they were $89 plus I had a coupon to boot. You can't build one for that. The 12ton is now $89 but HF puts them on sale often.

              Here's the 20ton: http://www.harborfreight.com/20-ton-...ack-95553.html
              Here's the 12ton: http://www.harborfreight.com/12-ton-...ack-61382.html

How the hell did you know it cost me $100 for a lathe to make a 25c doorknob, you've got my shop bugged, please don't tell SWMBO, or she'll expect $95.75 change!

Not counting labor. They are talking min wage at $15/Hr & we make 15 cents when you ciunt buying, moving, wiring, tooling, etc.

I picked up a enerpac air/hydro pump from the local salvage yard for $25. I plan to use it on my HF press.

I broke two air/hydraulic jacks. Went with a fast lift 20 ton jack and was happy till I got my big press done.
