I wonder if this is a fiber laser? The new fiber lasers do the lasing in a doped optical fiber and use diodes to pump them. It is visible light in the blue spectrum I believe. About 80% efficiency and they have already built ones with 150kw of continuous beam power! This is likely to bring the cost of low end laser cutters way down in the near future, maybe to the DIY level and metal cutting.Comment
