Anyone around Indianapolis Indiana area have a surface grinder ?

I have an older swivel base for my kurt vise that I'd like to have a fresh grind on.
It has some pitting from rust but I did de-rust it.
If anyone is interested please let me know. Thanks

I don't understand some of these posts. You make a legitimate thread and someone posts something like this that makes absolutely no sense what so ever, or has nothing to do with the original post.

        Lapping

I wonder if lapping it might be better since it's a pretty big piece ?

My guess is that the responder was indicating that he has one, was using it today and it resides in the state of Illinois at the 62221 zip code area.

Sorry I guess I was not clear. I was using my surface grinder today and I am wiling to help. It is a long way to go for a grind but I have had people come from Delaware to have parts made.

So my reply was an offer to help. But if you need to know I was also using my Kurt Vise but I don't have a swivel base for it.

Try to think positive and not negative, It will make you a happier person.

To hammernanvil, sorry for being unclear. I hope you get a fix.

what am I missing - that doesn't make sense imo. if you're reasoning is its size, even few people will have large lapping equipment. If you can't grind it for some reasons, and the part is soft, scraping would be a a good alternative.

I presumed he was suggesting lapping the two parts together, which it not really a solution. You have no control over where material is being removed and the two parts probably have irregular and non-matching facing surfaces. If you can't grind it, scraping is the obvious solution and I wish more small shop users recognized the prospect of developing good precision surfaces with simple tools.

nor is it lapping lol. you're probably right.....if I can discourage people from throwing abrasive in between mating parts and calling it lapping...I've done a civic duty

I have a very nice 18 x 8 hydraulic surface grinder for those who need grinding done.
