Never mind...

LOL
Guess that settles that. I don't "cloud" any of my data and that's why.

Never mind, only I can see it with the given link...

Haha It worked!!! (Nope, it didn't)

:( Ok, forget Amazon...

When I try to go directly to the link via the properties of the circle-bar, IE wants to know if I want to save the file from Amazon. You get a SUCK but it ain't for a machine deal.

Why not use WikiMedia that expressly allows hotlinking?

Here's the instructions:

Go here: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Main_Page
Log in (or create and account and log in... takes seconds)
Upload (button)
Select Media Files to Share (button)
Choose file
Continue (button)
Choose "This file is my own work"
Add a description and maybe some tags to be nice
Next (button)
Click on the thumbnail of the picture you uploaded
Click on the picture to open in it's own page
Copy the URL from the address bar

Then, paste that address into the Insert Image box of the forum you want to use. By posting it in a forum, you're effectively giving the picture away anyway. Why not expressly give it away with a CreativeCommons license that allows people to use it? You get easy, free, and legit hotlinking that isn't going to turn into a Photobucket extortion racket AND you get to do some good in the world by making your picture available for others.

If you don't want to share, while you're sharing here, then use Paul's instructions for uploading directly to the forum. 2 good options available now. The Photobucket problem is solved.

Good Greif. That's got more steps than this site and it's a PITA.

What about Google Photos? One click to post an image.

Good Greif. That's got more steps than this site and it's a PITA.

Well, the number of steps is rather inclusive... guess I was being too thorough.

It's actually rather fast and easy. Way faster than Photobucket. I uploaded 19 pictures yesterday for the Wikiversity machining course, and it went very quick. You don't have to describe and tag the picture if you don't want to. As I said, tag if you want to be nice.

And, honestly, if you listed off every mouse click to get a picture into photobucket and then hotlinked here, it would be about the same. Could you imagine the list to describe how to set up a server, ftp images to it, get the URL for it, and then post that in a comment here? People do it.

WikiMedia is easy. The only odd part is that there's no "Copy this URL to ... " box. You have to open the image in a new window (click on it) and then copy the address from the browser. Okay, so maybe there's one more step than Photobucket.

---

Actually... just fooling around in it a bit. There's a very cool feature that I hadn't noticed before. From the thumbnail page, when you click on an image it opens up in an info page. Right under the image, there are resolutions:
"Size of this preview: 800 600 pixels. Other resolutions: 320 240 pixels | 640 480 pixels | 1,024 768 pixels | 1,280 960 pixels | 2,816 2,112 pixels."
If you click on one of those, the image opens up at that resolution, and you can paste THAT resolution in a forum...

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/6/61/3_Jaw_Chuck_in_Use.jpg/640px-3_Jaw_Chuck_in_Use.jpg

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/6/61/3_Jaw_Chuck_in_Use.jpg/800px-3_Jaw_Chuck_in_Use.jpg

Have to admit, that's pretty cool. I like that kind of control,

The chrome fix is still working fine for me. It's just like when fotosuckit worked years ago, I can go to the 2nd entry in Shop made tools & see Brian's spider without clicking or doing anything different.

Someone at Firefox should figure out how they did it for Jerry's Christmas present :)

It works on some, not others.

For me it does NOT work on BBorr's pics (although it used to), but DOES work on some further down the thread that also show up as being from PB. Others have reported the same.

Also works on pics of mine in other threads that come from PB. No clue what the difference is, most likely some sort of new coding of the address. Have not bothered to look at it closely.

You're welcome, and thanks. Your mill is now in the Home Shop Machining textbook as an example :)

https://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/Home_Shop_Machining/Equipment/Mills

As I can't seem to interest anyone here in participating in this little project, it will likely die. But, for now, you've just provided the textbook example of a horizontal mill... literally.

If you are so inclined, you could follow that link, hit (edit), and maybe describe what's so great about a horizontal mill. Maybe a little history on that one in particular.

No need to give up on it. Every once in a while you will find someone interested in it. I might be, but don't have the time + motivation today. :)
