Got to try my new to me Flynn 65 Boring Head,it was not handled very gentle as the nicks and marks show but all the important parts seem in good shape.First I've seen was the square horizontal bar hole, searched for a bar on web came up with nothing.I used a extra lathe holder I had on hand, machined a 9/16" hole then pressed in a square 3/4" 1018 machined round for a very tight fit then finished with Tig.Very impressed how it works, been looking for Boring Head for about 5 years.http://i1371.photobucket.com/albums/ag292/tundratwintrack/image_zpspzmle9x4.jpg (http://s1371.photobucket.com/user/tundratwintrack/media/image_zpspzmle9x4.jpg.html)http://i1371.photobucket.com/albums/ag292/tundratwintrack/image_zpslqzqo4ol.jpg (http://s1371.photobucket.com/user/tundratwintrack/media/image_zpslqzqo4ol.jpg.html)http://i1371.photobucket.com/albums/ag292/tundratwintrack/image_zpsrqqccyje.jpg (http://s1371.photobucket.com/user/tundratwintrack/media/image_zpsrqqccyje.jpg.html)http://i1371.photobucket.com/albums/ag292/tundratwintrack/image_zpsng6iryws.jpg (http://s1371.photobucket.com/user/tundratwintrack/media/image_zpsng6iryws.jpg.html)

Nicely done tundra. Did you bore the hole in that plate or just clean up an existing hole? If you bored the hole did you get any tool chatter?

That's a nice boring head and bar. The square hole reminded me of something. I'm seeing a lot of boring head "cartridges" these days that are just insert holders. I was thinking of making a couple but some are only about $40--Not worth the savings to make. I'm also seeing "boring bars" coming down in price so the cartridge may be catching on.

I test drove my newly made Suburbanize fly cutter at the smallest radius with an 11" bar and about shook the building down. I will definitely need to make a shorter tool bar. The back-hang is just too great at anything above ~250-300rpm.

Ken , use counterweights but be careful.
Tundra , I hope thats paper I see between your Crusty Rolled Plate and your 123 or 234 blocks..
Did you start off with burned hole ? I tried to get them done on a burning table, torching it incorrectly leads to VERY rough cutting till it rounds out...beat the crap out of my turret mill..

I finally made a carbide holder for my 3/4 hole 3 inch boring head. 1 inch with 3/4 step.
Mounted a 1/2 IC insert, tnmg 432 I think. Mounted it on my rotary table to mill the pocket.
Needed it forctorchcut holes. After about 2. 75 dua or so its easy to get proper back clearance .

I use cereal box cardboard for padding all the time, and sometimes use it in the 3 jaw chuck.
