I have a space problem, so decided that I would have to make my own tool grinder. A compound table was part of the deal when I ordered my lathe but I had never used it. The lathe was single phase, so I converted it to three phase using a VFD. The VFD was a bargain and I got a further discount for buying two. The hunt was then on for a small, 0.25Kw, totally enclosed, 2,700 rpm motor. Luckily a local supplier had one at a good price.

The motor support was made from a short piece of RHS (square tube 0.125 wall) with end plates welded in. The compound was held to this tube with 4 M8 screws. Not wishing to have the lead screw on the long axis, I made up a lever attachment, which makes the grinder easier to use. To keep the dust off the cross slide I made up two bellows from acetate sheet. Not an easy thing to do, had to get some tips from Utube! However, they spray painted up OK.

I am happy with the end result. The VFD means I can run the motor at the correct speed for both the grinding wheel and the diamond cup wheel.

There will be another post on my take on handy HSS tools made using the grinder.

When I go to your user info and click on the "photos" tab I don't see any photos. When uploading to your album here there's a note that if you don't use the photos within 90 minutes that they self delete. I'd say that apparently you didn't correctly link to the photos before that time out occurred.

Perhaps review the sticky thread about posting photos. It's a little tricky with how it's done. As in you don't do the links from the same screen that you use for uploading them.

Hope you get it sorted. I'd love to see this simple cutter grinder too.

You should be able to see these, apparently my original posting was the URL in my album not the BB code

Almost there. Missing a few that are in the album though. Link them soon!

I like the concept. Might just use this to inspire my own cutter grinder.

I got it as part of a deal when I bought my lathe from Chester. They are available in different sizes.

Ebay has two pages of compound tables.

Very Nice!

I now have a purpose for the Atlas Mill table I've been storing for years.

Nice to see you replaced the screw feed with a lever on the right to left feed table.

For those who don't know, a grinder with a screw feed back and forth past the wheel is near useless.

DICKYBIRD on another forum, requested a video that shows the lever in action. Much to my surprise, I managed to load one onto YouTube.
