View Full Version : Variable Speed Pulley

Hey guys. It has been awhile since I have been on this site. I just purchased a used knee mill. Bridgeport clone actually to replace my worn out old bridgeport. Most of the new mill is good shape. It has a working DRO and power on the x axis. The problem I have which I knew about when I bought it is worn variable speed pulleys. First up to try and repair is the front pulley. This is the mechanical one without the spring. Inside there are two white plastic rings which due to the fact that a key runs through it is not a complete ring so I can actually remove them. Does anyone know what these are made from? Would I be able to acquire some material them machine it in place for a tighter fit. I should also mention I will likely have to hook this up with a VFD so another option would be to install non-adjustable pulleys and use the VFD for speed changes. What are your thoughts on this?

I don't know what they're made from, but when I rebuilt my vari speed head those pieces were pretty cheap.
So inexpensive that I doubt you could buy the material and make them cheaper.
