    Ever seen one of these?

I’m looking for a chart to tell me what taper I’m measuring

Neat way to measure an angle. The left looks like a sine bare. Only guessing

is that yours? nice find. I've only ever seen photos of the mythical taper mic, they are fairly rare. (also thought it would make a good project)

It is a sine bar. Measure the distance between pins, dollars to donuts it'll be to some round number like an inch, then its the standard sine bar formula sine of the angle = mic reading / distance between pins.
      located in Toronto Ontario

It looks like it is made by a toolmaker, probably using the frame of an old 3-4" Mitutoyo mike.
The exact pitch of the pivots would be essential for the calculations.

Ohh a sine mic, used to check the taper on tiny unicorns prongs, rare

If you scroll down to post #8 in this thread you will find a chart for one of these tools that has a 1" sine bar:

I just bough the micrometer, but it came with no instructions. I'll be glad to reimburse you for the troubles. Thank you. Mike

In any case, it's easy to make up a cart on a spreadsheet once you are sure of the length of the bar if you would prefer to not have to do the calculation each time you use it.

Cool gadget, first time I've heard of such a gadget.

It's actually built on a National frame and the sine bar is on 1" centers; this one of many precision measuring tools I picked up, yesterday from my Dad's estate. 15 different mics (including 3 Etalons), 6 indicators, gauge blocks, broach set, chucks, and etc. Christmas came early!!

Did you sand blast the frame? It looks like it was sand blasted.
