I've got an older Atlas 12" lathe, I assume this chuck came with it, its "made in England" thats about all the info I can find. Its a 6" three jaw and I need the pinion that drives the scroll...I've been lookin' all over the 'net for the last hour or so...no luck. Tried phoning some of the bigger co's...nothing. Anyone know what brand/model this might be or better yet, anyone got a pinion?? I've got all the dimensions...

thanks,

Chris

If the chuck is worn significantly, it may be more to the point to just buy a new chuck. Bison chucks are good, and reasonably priced. Places like MSC www.mscdirect.com (http://www.mscdirect.com) and Travers www.travers.com (http://www.travers.com) sell 'em.

Chris,
Just scrapped a Pratt "Made in England" 6" chuck but I kept the pinions - somewhere......
Let me have sizes.

John,
I just bought a Pratt. Please tell me I'll be ok ... it's the UK made one. I did see your RCM post on returning an inaccurate one.

Chris,
Can you post a picture of the chuck? (simplest way is with www.photobucket.com) (http://www.photobucket.com))

John & everyone...thanks for the replies. I don't have a cam at the moment (loaned it out!) but the dimensions are as follows:
its a ten-tooth gear, 1-1/4" overall length, the lower end that fits into the outer chuck body (backplate) is 1/4" dia and 5/32 long, the tooth section is 3/4 dia at its widest point and the upper/outer section is 1/2" dia and 1/2" in length. Drive hole is 1/4" square. I'll gladly buy/pay for shipping if anyone has one...many thanks,

Chris
