Why can't I post photos? Or am I doing something incorrectly?

posting photos on this site is not as easy as some other web boards.
one way is to go to your profile page,
open a photo album,
upload pics to your album,
then when you want to insert a pic, choose it from your own album

That's for sure. On other sites--like ShopFloortalk or Practical Machinist--you upload pics directly to the
site and link them to your post. Easy peasy. This place needs to get with the times...

I hardly ever get piszy on this site for respect to those that give us FREE web site usage.

You can not find a site like this one anywhere. No adverts cept for the couple at the top. Scroll down and its all pure member interaction.

Now, for pictures it is not difficult at all. There are a few steps and I have tried to make a bot, umm program to get you to the end steps. Meh, I failed.

What is that called again? Programed keystrokes? Starts with an "S"? I dont know

I dont bag on our sites photo hosting abilities. JR

You need to set up reliable off site host like imgur.com.

I used the snipping tool to show a screen shot of your post.

I put the photos in a album on this site. Then I took the URL from there and put it into the box, but the photos don't show. At the bottom of the page, it says I can start a new post, reply to a post, edit my post, but I CANNOT ad an attachment and I guess that included photos.

You would think even home shop machinists would be able to follow directions  It's not hard to upload images here.

Drag and Drop? Lets try that:

From my hard drive, I dragged. I dropped. Nothing????? Does it only work from YouTube? Or Photobucket? What are the rules?????

The image must be on a website (meaning that it can be accessed by an internet URL), which could be your own server, or the HSM server, or imgur, or Wikipedia Commons.

Well, I played with it more last night and did get one to post. One of my problems was that the images were too big. I reduced it to 800x533 and it show ed. I hosted them as an album on this site. I may try Google Photos as a host with the smaller sized photos later.

Thank you for all the suggestions.

Hi Peter,
Try this:
https://postimages.org/

Click the "Do not resize my images" drop down and select 800x600.

Click on the "Choose images" button and navigate to the directory with your photos. Hold down the Ctrl button on your keyboard and left click on each
of the pictures you want to upload.

Click "Open" in the bottom right corner of the file chooser.

If you uploaded multiple images, click the "Codes for all images" dropdown and change it to "Direct link".

Copy the links.

$2!! you think I'm made of money?

I wish you tapatalk guys would remove their advertising sig line polluting up half the threads on the internet (assuming there's a way to do so in the program)

Tapattalk $2 & 1 minute.

This site's hosting $0 & 2 minutes.

I am a big fan of free and will probably continue using this site's hosting. But suit yourself.

I'm not familiar with tapatalk, but it is possible that they could increase fees for hosting or even terminate service, so permanence of images may not be guaranteed. Of course, nothing is forever, and it makes sense to use this forum's hosting because it will likely remain as long as the forum exists. Most of my images here depend on my regular payments to 1and1.com, so they will disappear when I am gone. Wikimedia Commons may be more permanent, but still depends on the existence of that entity.

So, if anyone wants to be certain that the images in a particular thread remain visible, the best option would be to download the thread to their own machine, or print it in PDF format, or save screenshots in JPG or PNG format.

It seems the image hosting feature was originally through Yuku, which was acquired by tapatalk, and may be limited to 30 MB free and 100 MB for paid subscription:

Google Photos is another option with essentially unlimited storage:

Actually more like $5 ,I forgot. After a year or so,I paid extra,so that I didn't have to look at their ads.But that's just me. I got plenty of money ,not much time left. Edwin Dirnbeck
