Can any one tell me how to get this rusty metal off the nice piece of wood so that i can use the wood ?

only joking -

this is a Buffalo Forge post drill the rachet down feed mechanism is gone and I wonder if any one has a similar drill
and could provide a close up picture of the
mechanism so that i could replicate it.

I saw one of these on my grandfather farm back in the 60s. But it is long gone with time.

I gave the last one I had to my brother in law to hang on his barn. It is a large, maybe 8" diameter cast handwheel with teeth cast in the bottom for the pawl to act on.

It looks like there are more parts missing. There should be two handwheels to operate the drill.

that piece that is cam actuated causes the drill to feed downward as you drill.I believe he is in North Carolina.
