Anyone heard of German Drehblitz quick change tool holders as fitted to my lathe.
I would like to get a catalogue from them to see what they have as accessories as I broke a tool and can't fathom if its for screwcutting or parting off I asked a few people and they were scratching their heads too.
It's a strange looking long thin blade with a rear serated back edge to it (oposite the cutting edge)which fits inn a serated holder anyone seen these ?Alistair

Try a Google search, some of the pages have an english translation.
Even a Scotsman should be able to read it then. http://bbs.homeshopmachinist.net//biggrin.gif

That's a triple inverse, undercut, whitworth dual-threading tool with a 36 degree negative rake. The last guy I saw using one lost an ear trying to cut a bifurcated chamfer relief in a 45 pitch elongated Hanson thread. (May have been a 32 pitch modified Wheatley, I can't recall.)
I would bury it in a deep hole and forget about it...

Alistair,

Looking at your pics,it looks like you can just regrind the top of the bit that's broken.

Looks like a threading tool to me. I have an old lantern style threading tool yhat is sort of similar. It is designed so you can just grind the top of the tool to sharpen it and not change the 60 deg point. Maybe the rest of the adjustments are to dial in rake. Keep us posted...

"pretty expensive piece of kit"

I had to read that twice. Thought you caught "trash mouth" again.

Come to think of it though, my original take might fit better if you can't find parts.

No guys the cutter completely shattered no chance of resurection there. Alistair

I can't tell by the pics, but the cutter appears replaceable, if it cannot be reground. Aloris and some other toolholders use an insert that is very similar appearing if not the same.

If there is anything at all left of the V shape, it can be ground to that point and salvaged. Loosen the Allen screw and slide the cutter out.

I am not at all familar with this tooling, but would not be surprised if there was some sort of quick retracting feature to withdraw the cutter at the end of the thread.
