I'm new to this group...but just wanted you to know that I ordered the MicroMark 7x14 on Tuesday...also getting carbide bit set, 4" chuck, cut off tool, rocker tool post and couple of other items. Can't wait til it gets here so I can start turning metal! I've learned quite a bit off this group and just wanted to say HI and THANKS!

I have the same lathe. However, I would use HSS instead of carbide.
It is the lathe that I cut my first chips on.

And now the fun begins!

I hope you got a 4 jaw chuck; much more useful than a 3 jaw, and it's worth the effort getting adept at centering stock in the 4 jaw. Better gripping too.

This opens up the endless topic of accessories; feel free to ask for advice (you'll get plenty!), but the archives should have lots of info on that topic.

I expect your new lathe has a 3MT spindle like my lathe does; I just got done making a drawbar and handle for a set of 3 MT collets from littlemachineshop.com; VERY nice to have collets.

PSD KEN--You have ordered the Micro Mark mini Mill? I have been considering getting one and after you have used yours for a bit, I'd appreciate it very much if you'd share with us the pros and cons of it. TIA!

We are about 100 miles west of Pocatello on I-84. It's been chilly, rainy and foggy here...not sure how Pocy has been but probably similar.
