Oh just buy a lathe and mill already. ITs the same damn thing as the 12x36 with a shorter bed. This aint rocket science, if the lathe looks the same from different suppliers, it came from the same factory.
You have Parralysis from Over analysis, Just buy a damn lathe and mill and go from there, you'll be happier.

Haha, good Call Bill. It took me about 6 months of pestering people before I decided which lathe I was going to buy (12x36 geared head import ended up the choice), when it came time to buy the mill, I just rang the shop and ordered a RF31, I had seen enough of them to know they would do whatever I wanted them to.

I've went thru the agonizing period during several purchases, order one, then think dammnation, shoulda ordered the other one.
Now I just order, and don;t read anymore ads, etc.
There is no perfect machine, car, so forth,it's a matter of deciding what fits your needs the best.

I could not make up my mind between the 24 and the 36 inch one, so I bought the 40 inch.

Lots more room to work and it's the same head and tail stock.
