The Chili thread got me thinkin these... pizza burgers. I tinkered with these for sometime to get the taste and texture just right and they are quick to make.
RustyBurgers.
In a large skillet brown a 1/2 lb of jimmy dean mild italian sausage add 1 lb of ground round or hamburger. Drain off oil after cooked. reduce heat and with a spatula chop and mix meats together, the meat should be in small fine bits. Add (1) 16 oz can of Contadina pizza sauce and simmer. Pre heat oven to 375 deg. Then on a cookie sheet spread out large italian sandwich buns that have a cornmeal dusting and place in oven till lightly toasted. Remove and top with meat and sauce mix. Sprinkle with shreaded cheese and pop back into the oven 5-7 min or till cheese has melted. This will make between 16 and 32 RustyBurgers depending how you load them up. Try em'. They taste great cold as well.
1 lb Ground lean beef
1/2 lb Jimmy Dean mild italian sausage
1- 16 oz can Contadina pizza sauce
1 package shredded pizza cheese. ( If you like nacho's try topping with spiced taco cheese for a twist. Mmmm.)
1-2 bags of large italian buns like ( Orlando's Crustatini ) type buns or french bread.
