Default Workshop Discussion

We are making progress in pulling together what will be the First Annual Digital Machinist CNC Workshop. The site and dates have been decided on at this time. I’ll post more details about the event when they are finalized.

The location and dates are:

Washtenaw Community College
Ann Arbor, MI

June 22 through the 25th 2010

The workshop is a continuation of the one originally hosted by Roland Friestad at his shop in Galesburg IL. With Roland’s retirement and subsequent sale of his shop, he chose to pass the responsibilities along to us, though he will still be an important part of the workshop.

We hope to make few changes to the format of the workshop. Our intention is to keep the focus on educational seminars geared to those interested in hobby and low cost CNC software, hardware, and use.

We have had a great deal of interest from those hoping to give seminars and I think we will have an interesting mix of subjects.

George

This helps plan next year's vacation schedule... stay at home and play with machine tools. Literally 10 miles away, I CAN take the bus!

Will the college allow parking lot camping for RV's? If not, is there camping nearby? Walmart?

Hey, John Stevenson!!!!!

If you want to fly into O'hare (Chicago) I'm 40 minutes away. We can drive from there to Ann Arbor, Mi. About 250 miles.

The college has told me that they will allow trailers and trucks to overnight in the parking lot, so I don't see a problem with an RV. I'll get a confirmation on that to make sure though.

I have not checked on camping nearby, but I am sure there is a Walmart within a reasonable distance.

I hope to have all the pricing and signup info wrapped up in the next week or two and will make post it as soon as it is ready.

George,
Are you set up to take registrations yet? I would like to attend but am uncertain how to go about registering.

Yes, we can take reservations now. I went over the details with the girls in circulation last week, so they shouldn’t be too surprised to hear from you. The phone number is: 800-447-7367.

I am planning on posting some more details soon; just waiting on confirmation of a few things regarding hotel and college dorm details. I can give the prices for the event though.

Attendee cost: $150

Thanks for asking. Sounds like we’ll see you there!

George

George,

Any sort of preliminary syllabus/schedule for the workshop? Just wanting to know what I could possibly expect and on which days. Like many people, I may not be able to stay all four days and may need to choose which ones I should be there for.

Keith,

I am in the process of getting commitments on the seminars and am adding them to the list in this forum as they firm up. The plan is to have most of them set by mid-February; we’ll see how that plan goes.

Hopefully, I will be able to come up with a schedule sometime in March. This should give people plenty of time to make their plans, while giving me enough time to ensure the schedule will be accurate.

If you have any particular seminar you would like to attend, contact me through my email. I may be able to give you an answer about the seminars you are interested in before I finalize the entire schedule. You can reach me at: gbulliss(at)villagepress(dot)com

Looking at my previous posts, I see that my plans for getting the seminars scheduled have fallen a bit behind. While I do have the majority of titles posted in the Workshop Information thread, I still need a few details before I can assign the titles a specific time and day.

I should have the answers I need to set the times and dates in stone shortly. If you are concerned about catching a specific seminar, but will not be able to attend all of the days, send me an email at gbulliss(at)villagepress(dot)com and I will try to get an answer to you.

I have heard from a few people who assumed information in the threads had not changed, since many of the dates on the last posts are somewhat old. Don’t let the dates keep you from checking for new info. If I add something, such as new titles to the seminar list, I do so by editing my original post, which leaves the date unchanged.

I just added three more titles to the seminar list, and more are expected. The schedule is pretty much done but I want to wait until I hear back from a few people. Don’t want to make promises I can’t keep!

As I have mentioned before, if there are any particular titles you want to see but won’t have the opportunity to stay all four days, contact me through email and I’ll see what we can do to help out. Now is the time to speak up, before the schedule is set.
