I obtained a set of Fisher Machine company thread measuring wires, used, from ebay. They are missing the little card that shows the measurements.
Is it possible that someone has the card and could scan it and post it here? Or does someone know where it might already be on the internet? Or maybe just tell me the mathematical formula? I did have some information in a machinist handbook. I think the American Machinist's Handbook. But it was talking about an optimum wire for each pitch of thread, and that isn't how these work. I have composed an excel spread sheet for this. Send me a PM with your email address and I'll transmit it.

I just want to know how many fingers on each hand you guys have to handle these wires? 7 or 8?
There must be some night classes somewhere... |

use grease to stick your wires in place

try sticking the three wires into the end of a soft pink eraser or a cork, that will hold the wires and free up at least 3 or 4 hands

I have seen people take about a 6 inch piece of duct tape, put two wires in about a third of the width of one end of the tape, one on the opposite end, and then fold the tape in half lengthwise over the wires. This makes a handy little gizmo for keeping everything together- now you only need about three hands!
You can fold the tape and manipulate the wires over your thread with one hand, your micrometer with the other. After this is done, they just mark the wire size on the tape and leave them taped together in their tool box. I had always just juggled them, so this works out pretty well! |

I've usually just juggled them too. Lay two wires on top and balance them, then you've only got one wire below and the mic to manipulate. If I have my head on straight I sweep the swarf out from under the ways so when one drops I've got a chance of finding it again. So far so good.

a little block of styrofoam works okay for holding wires...just jam em in there. Same as the eraser but maybe a little softer. Does the machinery's handbook have thread wire info? It must.
