Default cadillac 14x40

hello, guys. i have a friend who just bought a cadillac 14x40,looks to be early 80s model. he needs an op manual bad. hes the type of guy who wont do anything until hes read the manual.all he does now is turn it on and watch the chuck spin. i downloaded a manual from grizzly that i thought was very close but hes not happy because its not exact. i searched here and several other forums but cannot find info for this lathe. i stood in front of the cadillac with the grizzly manual in hand and many of the headstock and apron controls look the same. i want to try it but hes still balky. anybody know if they are close to the same? thanks, mike

I have two friends with Cadillac lathes and I first learned to turn on one of them. The controls are not like my Grizzly 14X40 but they are well marked and should be easy to figure out. If he has never turned before he will have a problem with speeds and feeds but this site and others have basic info on that. Just do a search.

Also, do a google search for Cadillac lathes to find a distributer and see if they can supply him with a manual.

Jack.

another problem- he runs from computers. he does ok with his old WWII leblond but the symbols on the newer stuff intimidate him. im ready to take it for a drive but hes afraid we ll bust a gear. the legend plates on the headstock and apron are near new so theres no guessing there. my search engine is set to yahoo and it turns up nothing usefull,i ll try google tomorrow. thanks, mike

Go on Ebay and do a search for "Cadillac Lathes" and some operators and parts manuals will come up.

In fact try this link.

Cadillac Lahes are sold by Webb Japan Company in Las Vegas, NV and Corona, CA. They should have a new manual for that lathe.

When I got my 1987 Webb Mill in April, I needed parts and they sold me a manual with all of the part numbers. It will only require the serial number of the Cadillac lathe to get the correct manual.

Give them a call. They were very helpful to me. I got all of the parts and all is well now.

thanks guys. i think "old timers disease" is kicking in. the e-bay link reminded me that i did buy a manual from OZ and give it to my buddy shortly after he bought the lathe a year ago. he swears i never found one and now i can swear i did. probably quicker to buy a new one than search thru his stacks of junk. i would almost bet that a jet or birmingham would have some common parts.
