    Post Mozilla question

    Where does Mozilla store bookmarks?

Most of mine disappeared apparently due to the power going down unexpectedly the last time I used the computer.

This evening, I found that the bookmark file was messed up, with most of the bookmarks missing.

I do have a backup of the old IE favorites, but probably nothing for Mozilla.

I can presumably re-load into Mozilla, but I'd like to get the Mozilla file backed up also.

    Thanks

I got this from typing your exact question into google, give it a try if this doesn't help. Good luck.

Here's where it's saved assuming you have Windows XP

    This is for Firefox

    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\default.7pi\bookmark s.html

    -and-

    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\default.7pi\bookmark s.bak

Here's where it is for Mozilla

    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\default\miobpauw.slt\bookmar ks.html

The mozilla info appeared to be incomplete or mistaken IN MOZILLA....

Because I deleted (copied away) the file that was supposedly the bookmarks, but the same set of bad bookmarks came up again.

But, it turned out that the bookmark file was being re-copied in from another place.

I ended up having to delete Mozilla entirely, AND blow away the profiles etc. Then re-install.

Only then would it re-import the IE favorites so that I could get back at least a few of the previous items.

    Grrrrrrrrrrrr.

sounds like you have some evil hijack/whatever that is copying them back. I fought that crap with IE forever. then I got firefox, and zone alarm, and created a logon account with no privilages and only use that account for the internet.

    hackers suck.

To import the old IE bookmarks, go to Firefox FILE / IMPORT and it should start the process.

I had the same thing happen to my Firefox bookmarks, so the bug is real.

    J Tiers,

Maybe you could give this a try:

You should have a backup file called bookmarks.sbsd.bak ( it’s html code so you can read it thru any browser). Try doing a file search and see where it is located on your computer. If you find it and it contains your old bookmarks just make a copy of it and name it bookmarks.html.

    It's a documented bug not a virus.

Well, it is moot, since I did delete the works and re-install it. So any prior stuff is pretty well gone.

The "import" function is non-functional as far as IE stuff is concerned, after initial install..

It will import a "file", but will not accept the old list of IE stuff as a "file". It might accept individual links one at a time, but I wasn't going there.

And, there is no such file as "bookmarks.sbsd.bak" on the computer.

Anyhow, doing the proper deletions did get rid of the file and allow the correct re-install and re-importation. There is no question of viruses etc.

I do have, now that I think of it, to get the updates that Mozilla recommended last year. I don't have them since I re-installed.

Wotta pain. But, the bookmarks file name turns out to be correct after all. So it gets backed up.

    Per viruses etc....

Of course mozilla is the browser (firefox, actuall, I guess), the machine has zonealarm pro, AVG, Spybot S&D, etc, running on it. So far so good.

I recommend the lot of them. Don't use the free zonealarm....get the "Pro" version, it is worth the money. The free version crapped out a lot, especially if overloaded with attacks. The pro version has never done anything wrong.
