Several months ago, there was a discussion on policies from some of the suppliers about splitting an order and double billing shipping and handling charges.

Was McMaster-Carr one of those? Don't remember. They have want a friend wants/needs, but we both are 'limited income' and really don't want to spend for multi-s/h charges.

My McMaster orders have always come in one package so I can't comment on them.

J&L gets most of my retail business, Enco also. These orders often ship from two different warehouses with one shipping charge.

The only times I have had McMaster-Carr "split-ship" items is when the items are shipped from different warehouses, or when some of the items (i.e. long lengths of stock) are too large to be packaged with the other items in your order. When you place your order, ask how many packages the order will be shipped in, and at what cost.

Ah ha, thanks ER, twill ask as one item is 6 foot long (acme rod).
