For plans, I'm going off of a picture with basic dimensions from a friend that made one. Do you have any drawings or specific dimensions available?

    Wes,
No, I just copied the Wolverine manual off the web and am going based on that. I reckon about 8" of the outer tube and 25" of the inner tube will pretty much match the wolverine setup.

No,I don't think it will fit, since the welds usually stick down more than .015"

    Darin,
I milled a piece of the 1" sq tube that I have at home in half to look at the internal weld and it is much flatter than 15 thou - I doubt if it's more than 2 or 3 thou but maybe I have an especially well made batch or something?
It'd be great if you could try it out.

Are you sure it has to even be a precision fit? I grind lathe tools by hand and that's far from precision and they all work. My "guess" is darn near anything would work that would hold the handle end withinn 1/8" of steady. jstinem's idea of the angle iron sounded good and very easy/quick to do. That's about what I had in mind for a 72" belt grindor I'm collecting parts for.

(Don't forget, the longer the female end can be, the less side to side play on the male piece where the tool handle rest.)

Thank you to our families of soldiers, many of whom have given so much more then the rest of us for the Freedom we enjoy.

It is true, there is nothing free about freedom, don't be so quick to give it away.

Ken,the bad news is the welds are not at all consistant,I looked at three different pieces, one was nearly flat, the other two where sticking down maybe .010",but very irregular.

I suppose since all you need are short pieces you could just take a section of square bar and braze/weld a piece of HSS toolbit in the end and make a push broach of sorts to scrap the seam clean.I have done it on 2-1/2"x 1/4" wall tube, don't know if it will work on the smaller stuff.Heck, maybe just find a toolbit the right size and shove it through in a press.
I just need one more tool, just one!

    Darin,
    Thanks for trying! Too bad.....
I think I'll just buy a few feet of the McMaster
nestable 1-1/4" stuff and use the 1" sq tube I have in the garage for the male part.
Now I have to justify a McMaaster order by buying some more stuff.....

    Hmmmm........
