    Post What Oil

    I just got a used 9x20 and it has brass filler caps. does anyone know what weight oil goes in this gear box? It grizzley, enco, HFreight type lathe

    Did you get a manual? Both Grizzly and Harbor Freight have free pdf doanloads of their own manuals for that lathe.

    Those brass fillers go directly on the change gears. I would just use standard way oil. Use it for the ways, and use it for the gears.

    Purchase some ISO 68 Way oil and get busy making chips. The way oil will not run off and out of the bearings areas and you need it for the sliding surfaces.. Do not use standard automotive engine oil as its additive package is for the internal combustion engine.
