As I recall it is 750w = 1 hp and then there are losses and a little extra power built into the engine so I will guess 8 to 10 hp.
Wait I'm changeing my guess to 16

I think that site is wrong on the HP. It seems to be 10 hp. Manuals are available here as well:

Anyone have a source for info on old Eclipse 28V generators?
I have one that may be either an aircraft OR a tank generator, 28V, with mostly only military contract numbers etc on it. No ratings info.
It's fairly chunky, and I have some uses for it, IF I knew the ratings and they were in range of what I want. I got it from a guy who was using it as a load for small engine research, he didn't know the true ratings either.
Eclipse and generator searches on google end up filled with IBM stuff, and only 1 out of 20 that actually relate to something electrical. Apparently there is a computer program with the same keywords...... I haven't held my mouth right yet, evidently.

Is this what the unit looks like?

If so it is a:
"Bendix Eclipse M-2 Aircraft Generator - Motor. Very good condition. The data plate is stamped TYPE M-2, MF'RS. DWG. NO. 91062-718-1, ORDER NO. AC 15805, VOLTS 28.5, ECLIPSE AVIATION, DIV. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION"

I can't find any more about it.

Very similar, but ducting and connections are different, as well as a keyway instead of a spline shaft. That's why I suspect it may be a tank generator.
It is a type P2.
Against the tank idea is the fact that it is made by eclipse aviation, it has what appears to be an AF number on it. Also is the thought that even the AF has ground equipment, and that ground power carts supply aircraft voltage and current, but are not necessarily flight-qualified hardware. The provision of air inlet ducting is also suggestive of usage in a dusty environment, and could go either way.

Looks like you could hang that on a truck under the hood and use it as a welder. I would say it is definitely a ground unit. Aircraft don't normally use exposed connections like that and don't generally have ducting for cooling like that. I did get some hints when looking around that it may be rated at around 200 amps.

Yep, welder was where I was going, although with 28V it might not be as nice as a "real" Lincoln etc..... But with a ballast inductor it might do OK.
But then I am not a good welder. In fact I am NOT a welder. I can siver braze, solder, etc anything you want, but welding is not a skill I currently possess. That is supposed to change.
28V 200A is "enough". Probably 150A would be "enough" for me.
And that is also the number that came up when I looked around, as well as being what the P.O "thought".
Be nice to know for sure, but.....
Thanks.
