Post Mill Swivel ?? where might it be used

Looking at milling machines in ctalogs - there is a rotating base at top of colum (hoizontal plane) to swing the entire head side to side.

Where might this be used? (neither this or the in-out slide at base of head is to be used as slide are they? - just as setup movement)

Some mills you can put attachements on the back side, then spin them to the front.

That and several other uses make it a handy item.

normaly you set the ram head to the center of the y axis travel, farther if you need more room.

swinging the head comes in handy for jobs way too big for the table, I have done some big parts that needed bored and sleaved that we welded legs to the big part, bolted heavy flat bar to the table and welded that to part too.

swing the head, find center and start borring.

you also will swing the head to mill tall parts that are mounted to the side of the table.
