Unhappy The joy of living on a State Highway

When I first bought this property, the only way into it was across a fence line and down a ditch. I spent about a week and $1000 putting in a culvert pipe and entrance. I ordered 5yrds of concrete and hand mixed another yard. That doesn't count the two months spent getting permits from the state and making drawings to state specs.

Well, they're widening the road here and this is what's left of my driveway. It took about 15 minutes for them to destroy it today.

yes, but the beauty is, now they have to restore it to it's original condition...minus the ten feet that you are losing.

they did the same thing to us a few years ago (damn, more like 15). when my dad got wind of it, he ran down to the lumberyard and got a bunch of bags of quikrete. we poured a 2" slab where the gravel used to be. Now they have a nice entrance, when it was replaced it was at least 4" thick.

He figured his taxes were going up anyway, might as well get something other than cars going faster.

    Angry

    Rant on,

Well don't that just frost you?Best part is next year they will want more taxes for the"improvements" they made.
We got the same sort here, except here when they pave a road they figure it's the last thing they will ever have to do to it.
My road used to be dirt, cost $205/year for property taxes. Our road wyes off another and right in the wye is a culvert. That culvert was colpasing when they paved the road. The following year the taxes went up to $485/year and because the culvert was colapsed the new paved road is always under a foot of water for three days after it rains. This past year taxes went up again to over $750,except now all that fabulous pavement is busting up and falling apart.
Our county is run by idiots, simple as that. Most of them did nothing by smoke weed all through school and the county is the only place they can get a job. What a bunch of Galactic level morons

Oh and the school board,SOB'S all, every f---ing year the taxes go up and the students get worse. Why do people have to pay for public schools when they have to pay extra to send the're kids to private school if they want an education?

Besides all that, while we're on the subject of goverment stupidity(large subject I'll admit)when you folks out there hear about FEMA's debacle in dealing with this storm,be aware that's nothing compared to the local goverment's stupidity in the matter.
After the storm the first responders to people's imeadiate life and death needs were private charities, particularly church groups. They feed, clothed and provided water to all who were in need,no hassles and in a very efficient manner. What did the state and local authorities do?Gave them a rash because some of them didn't file the proper forms before setting up relief stations in the state
I guess the problem is,noone with any sense want the job,so idiots flourish.

The latest is a bait and switch tax bill infront of the governor. The Republican governor vetoed a Democrat bill that would do away with the sales tax on food and add a $1/pack tax on ciggarttes. He has caught on and so have I.The plan is simple, wave a carrot infront of people(eliminating the sales tax)tie it to a feel good soak the evil tax(cigarrete tax) when the state coffers run low in a year or two, replace the sales tax and keep the ciggarette tax to boot.Has been done before.Luckily I don't think the veto will be over ridden.

    Rant mode off:

Why not ask them for your money back?

When they look at you cross eyed, ask them if someone just fixed their roof for a lot of money and it still leaked, wouldn't they want their money back, too?

Can you get them to pave a new driveway to your house?

Millman,I have too much respect for the owners of this BBS to use THAT much profanity. My Co.supervisor will get a good ear blister when/if I ever catch that SOB.

Debequem, already tried that one, doesn't work, just makes them more of a PITA.Last time I complained about the flooding they sent a crew in and dug the ditch in front of my house 2' deep even between culverts. What this does is make a nice snake/frog/mosiqito pond in the summer.I think I might rent a D-6 cat with a root rake and send the road "back to the future" by plowing it down the center,if that don't work it's on to city hall

It looks like they are paving to the fence line on all the other driveways. I WISH they'd do the whole thing. It's about a 1/4 mile back to the house--All dirt.

Oh yeah, that's my snake killer in the last picture. She's been bitten six times by rattle snakes. Dang dog won't learn but she'll go head to head with 'em and stays between me and the snakes.

You can't make it out in the pic but she's nursing the last bite on the left front leg. She still hobbles around on the other three.

Also, it was 78 here today. ... But still dry as a bone.

Well all is not that bad. Where I am, they couldnt finish Super 7 because some people in one rich town thought it might lower their property value, so during rush hours you are bumper to bumper on a 1 lane backroad for 20+ miles. Yes, It used to take me 1 hour to get to South Norwalk from where I lived in Redding. If some one out of town asked for directions to get somewhere, you had to laugh, everything is old curvy back roads. I hate this state.
