Vertical Bandsaw Need.
For metal cuting I currently use an old Sears wood cutting band saw with a speed reducer. While this has worked OK, I would like to upgrade to something built as a metal cutting band saw, maybe a 12-14" throat. Looking at Grizzly, Jet, they all seem to be out of my price range. Hoping to stay around $500.00. Any thoughts on what else I might look at?
Thanks

if you have patience, you can regularly get well working industrial machines for that price tag at auctions.

Bite the bullet. A new 7" x 12" HV bandsaw worth the shop space will cost you $650 to $750 or if you insist on paying Jet's mark-up $1050.
$500 won't buy you mich of a saw certainly not one wih a 12" throat.
If you're stuck with the low budget, start scrounging. Sooner or later there will be a good metal cutting bandsaw pop up for a day or two that will just suit you. You nad better know about it and decide in time becaause someone else will buy it out from under you. I been on both sides of that situation too many times to count.
There's an art to scrounging and most of it involves humam relations and a willing network of people helping you to find the stuff you need.

34ford, does that name imply you have a 34?
If so, what is it? Coupe, Sedan?
Any pictures?

Sid,
You obviously are a gear head. Yes, I have a 34 Ford, it is a 3-window coupe, chopped 2-1/2", full fendered, all steel. Running a 350 TPI motor w/350 auto, TCI IFS, Ford 8" rear. Do not have any digital pix. Thanks for your comment.

I know where there is a 16" Walker-Turner vertical bandsaw for sale. Email off list if interested.
