Another question for the car gurus out there

Does anyone know who makes the MX0 automatic transmission? I know its in Chevy's new corvettes and some of the older camaros, but i heard someone say that those were actually made by ford, just wondering if there was any truth to this.

MXO is GM'm RPO (Regular Production Option) for the 4-speed automatic-Not a specific transmission. Depending on the year, it could be the 4L60E, 4L65E or the 4L80E. Not to mention previous option years using the 700R4.

Who knows where they're made now days. As far as I know, GM is the mfg. but they could be sourced from anywhere. Track the above numbers and see where it leads.

Of course...d'oh i feel stupid - the C6 still uses the 700-R4 only its the beefed up model. In the early '90s it became the 4L60. the new one for the C6 is still a GM transmission (not surprising since they are the preffered manufacturer for racing transmissions)but the beefed up 4L65-E. The "Big Three" have "spun off" a lot of plants in the last 10(+/-) years. The spin offs have been designing, manufacturing, and selling parts/assemblies outside of their "original parent" companies' product lines. It is possible that a plant that "Ford" spun off is making stuff for "GM". There is(was?) a little plant south of here that was a "MOPAR" plant, but now the parts are made for whoever pays the light bill.

This maybe a little OT and some may have heard this before, about a problem Rolls Royce had when they decided to buy a GM automatic transmission rather then reinvent the wheel and make one of their own.

They were happy with the way the transmission worked but when the technicians took it apart they were horrified to see that the valve body contained many sharp corners and rough edges. This obviously would not be acceptable in a RR. So they took their die grinders and deburred and polished all the offending surfaces. Happy now that the transmission fluid would now be able to freely slither around the passageways they reassembled the transmission put it back in the car and test-drove it. It shifted and ran like crap, SEEMS GM had taken all the lumps and bumps into consideration and compensated for them.

maybe? No not really, i heard that from a friend and didnt really believe - couldnt find the information i wanted "anywhere" online so i thought i'd post here. Of course a few minutes later i remembered the transmission that the new generation corvettes used - i think i read it in car and driver or some such. Thanks though for the help!
