Is there a drawbar on this machine? If so loosen it a few turns and then hit it straight down with a soft faced hammer. If your machine is set up with a Morse taper then you may be able to use a special wedge shaped drift in the side of the quill.

yes it does have a drawbar i thought of that but i was afraid it would be rough on the threads of the drawbar and the collet. i guess i could get a bolt with the same threads and use that

    thanks

Just give the drawbar a whack, that's what it's meant for, you won't hurt anything. The amount of force involved is not that great, more like a tap than driving a big nail. Just make sure you're using a soft face mallet or hammer.

    Good luck.
