Post Anyone in the Richmond, VA Area?

    Hi Guys,

Just wanted to see if any of you were in the Richmond, VA area. I live about 20-miles SW from the city. My 2-car garage is completely converted to a machine shop...except for the bicycle & recycling bins, Ho!

    Have a nice weekend.

    Warm Regards,

    TIM

    Hi Tom,

Good hearing from you. I don't get down your way much. However, maybe our paths will cross anyway.

    Greetings Tim

I live in Toano, my garage is my shop also. Don't have a lathe yet. Got a Taig 2019 micro mill and a Delta DP 350 V/S drill press. What kind of work are you doing? I make my own tooling and the occasional odd part for the locals. It's a fun hobby.

    Take care
    Russ

    Russ,

Good hearing from you. I'm one of those guys who does the "weird stuff," compared to almost everyone else on this BB. Though I did just finish a nice little depth gauge.

My shop functions as prototype shop where I build, fabricate parts or restore scientific apparatus. I have made several electric motors (demonstration type) over the last year. These were paying jobs, so I do a little of that too.

I have a 9X20 lathe, mill/drill, drill press, metal/wood-cutting bandsaws. Addtionally, I have some woodworking machines; table saw, planer, sanders, table-router, etc.

A lot of stuff to fit into a garage. If I just did metal work or just physics or just woodworking, I'd have more room.

    Good hearing from you!

    Warm Regards,

    TIM

    Tim#1,

I don't look at the Networking Forum often but saw your note and thought I'd reply. I live in Richond - - actually in Chesterfield
    county/Midlothian area.

Sounds like we have similar garages. I have both woodworking stuff -- table saw, planer, shaper, jointer, etc. and a bunch of metal working stuff - - lathe, mill, shaper, surface grinder(when I get the pieces back together), welding stuff, etc. Fun hobby.

What I don't have is enough space so it is all on casters and can be moved around as needed. Sawdust doesn't go well with machine oil.

    Hi Reggie,

As you can see, I don't check the networking section very often, either. I live in Chesterfield, right off Hull Street near the Swift Creek Reservoir. So, not too far away.

Yeah, I know what you mean. If we just did metal or wood, we'd have plenty of room (probably). Though it sounds like your shop has a little less free space then mine.

I have some cloth covers for the machine tools, but forgot to use them the other week when I decided to plane some lumber. So yeah, sawdust is a pain. I have an air cleaner and it also helps to use the Shop Vac at the tool.

Well, good hearing from you. Nice to know I'm not the only one in Richmond area.

    WArm Regards,

    TIM
