    Talking Van Norman Mill

    Hello all..I just purchased a old Van Norman Mill model # 22XX? It is a combination vert/horz machine and has enough levers to keep two people busy...HELP..I need a manual

    Larry, I have an older Van Norman #12 horizontal/vertical mill. The model number is embossed on the left side of the case, just below the horizontal ram. No manual, but have figured the thing out and use it often. The trickiest levers are the two speed transmission for the quill rpm (on the upper right corner)and the table speeed transmission (on the back side, above motor). My machine has embossed plates showing the settings for various speeds, would be happy to share the info with you if yours is a #12. One handy feature is that the head can be set at an angle, off square from the table, as well as horizontal. The Van Norman taper is hard to find, had to make my own end mill holders, but works great.
