    Check out Updates and Improvements by Lionel Weightman Page 18-27 Feb 1998 Projects in Metal. Also Bringing the Craftsman Model 80 Metal-Turning Lathe into the 21st Century by Frank Beafore Page 20-25 Feb/March 2000 Machinist's Workshop. Pay attention to the section on adjusting gibs in the later article as I had the same problem (and broke the cross feed just the same way).
    Sherline has chucks and centers for it.
