Drilling from the headstock end
All my drilling and boring on a lathe to this point has been from the tailstock side. What's the normal approach from the headstock? I only have 2 or 3 mt taper drills (mt2 as I recall), and my spindle is mt4. Is it best to get the adapter sleeves and use taper drills? Or does it work just as well to just chuck a straight shank drill in the 3jaw? ...or use a sleeve to adapt the Jacobs chuck which I use in the tailstock? ...er what?
I assume using the tapers inside the spindle will be just as prone to slippage as is the case in the tailstock. Right?
