How do you get the "Smiles" into a post?

There's all sorts of options on the screen for formating and smiles. How do you get them to work? I see a help title on each when I mouse over but nothing happens when I click on them. Whut up wit dat?

Ok. try this... type the following..but use the symbols, not the words...

Colon capital D for

Finally, someone's thinkin around here..

My coffee is done..I'm going back to the shop with the fresh pot. I finally got my lathemaster outta the box and cleaned up. It's in pretty good shape really. Didn't find any sand in it either. Everything's nice and tight, should work pretty good as it sets. Gotta get this darn bench done and get her mounted, I'm itchin to try it out!!

I had to get it out to find out how tall I wanted my bench.. 22" legs are too short by 12-15" or so.
