good day at the auction
A small local company closed (owner retiring) and had an auction today. Things went quite cheap, for the most part. Two things followed me home:
An Enco dividing head, complete with 4-jaw scroll-type chuck, tailstock, and 3 dividing plates. See:
for the machine, w/o the chuck.
And a carbide tool grinder. Although it's an Enco also, I can't find it in the current catalog. It has a single wheel, running at fairly slow speed, grinding is done on the face of the wheel, which appears to be a diamond type. The table tilts up & down and there's a small miter guage. There's also a lever on the side which shifts the wheel arbor in some manner, I've found that if it's in the middle, the wheel/arbor oscillates back and forth. Dunno if it's supposed to do that or not, as I have no instructions.
Are there any tricks to using this grinder that I should know about?
Total for both was less than $300.00, even including buyer's premium.
Was sleeping when he knocked down the "automatic boring/facing head for a Bridgeport". Didn't think I needed it, as I have a Bridgeport boring head already.... didn't think about the "automatic" part. Oh, well.
I got the GEMCO automatic boring & facing head.
Jim, why don't you show the folks here a couple of photos of your Olds & Novo engines?

I'm going to put up a couple of web pages with pics of the Olds and Vaughn engines as soon as I get one of those Round Tuits.
The owner was a bit upset at what stuff was bringing, he was "bidder #19" and bought a lot of it back. He thinks it's worth a lot more than the auctioneer was able to coax from the bidders, but I'm unsure as to how he thinks he's going to do better. Maybe eBay, I guess his grandson sells stuff there and can help, but it's going to be a huge effort. I assured him that Wilson did as good a job as any auctioneer I know, most others that are local wouldn't have done nearly as well.
Good for us, though!
