Post Small shop cnc Mills Lathes?/

Without having to be a electronics expert and build youre own bridgeport clone cnc which of the small cnc s in the home shop machinist magazine are actually capable of doing some relatively decent machining? Like remove .070 thou cuts on brass with a small cutter kinda thing. I was thinking of a cnc mill to build some small brass components. >22 gatling gun..

    madman,
If you have the money to spend and the room the Tormach CNC ( http://www.tormach.com/) is a nice looking machine for half the price of a new Bridgeport.

I have friends who have both the Taig and Sherline CNC mills. Both make nice parts but have very limited capacity.

Mike, a gatling gun is a prohibited weapon in Canada. It's considered a machine gun.

In the US, the hand cranked Gatling guns are not considered machine guns as an individual action is required for each round fired. Canadian law may be more stringent.

Mike's in Canada, and yes, Canadian law is more stringent. Any weapon capable of rapid fire due to a mechanism other than pulling a trigger for each round is prohibited if the muzzle velocity exceeds 500 fps. That also includes any sort of trigger actuator.

You might also want to check out Industrial Hobbies. They sell a manual desktop mill and a CNC retrofit kit.

I went with Tormach and need to get one more component into the basement before it can be set up, but a trial run in the garage looked pretty good.
