    Default Visiting the Green Bear

    Hi Guys:
Been a long day left early this morning and took a trip to PA. I visited a High school machine shop and set up the engine display for the kids to see . Trying to help the instuctor get the program back on its feet ater a few years of apathy etc. He is going to have the students build model engines after the holidays. Since I was only about 30 miles from the Lycoming mall could not resits the opportunity to do a little shopping at Grizzly. I picked up an oak machinist chest for my son. Will be a christmas present and a 12" combo sheet metal machine. The folks there are very helpfull and patient. I tore into the boxes and uncrated the items and inspected them before signing for the stuff. Just got back an hour ago. Talking about a big toy store for big boys. They even had a CNC mill a littel larger than a series II bridgeport. It was 21 grand and out of stock oh well would not fit in the station wagon and was a little short on cash LOL.

Thanks for reminding me, I want to run up there before the end of the year. There is always too much stuff I want to haul home when I go there, usually run short of the folding money, before I reach the end of the "I want" list. Also have a more local retailer that looks like he's "getting out" of the metal working end of his (mostly imports) biz. He started after WWII, imported from Asia (Japan), Europe and Canada. I think trucking costs are taking a toll on his sales.
Today I will gladly share my experience and advice, for there no sweeter words than "I told you so."

I had a chance to go to the Springfield store in Oct. It was really nice, I know, it's China import stuff but it was still nice (and big!). What was even more impressive was their warehouse across the street. It think it was about the biggest building I've seen in a long time.
