    Default Fred was asking about musical boxes

    Does anyone know anything about wind up mechanical musical boxes my elderly friend Fred used to repair them he's a great engineer with a wealth of different experiences he hasn't done them for a number of years but he was wanting to re-learn aboout them anyone with any knowledge or ideas or know of any websites etc please let me know regards Alistair
    Please excuse my typing as I have a form of parkinsons disease

    Yes, Alistair, there is/was a person in the North East who actually had his house floor 'insulated' with them.
    Normally, he used to collect in memory of his wife, Jill who died tragically from cancer and he always played a barrel organ in the centre of Newcastle and in the village where we both lived. His kids went to school with my son and Jill and I had shared a wash basin on the way out to Norway! Whether he is still in my old village, I simply don't know.

    However, there is still a Musical box or mechanical music society in the UK and perhaps Fred can link up or find someone even closer to the Borders.

    Thank you. I did have his E- Mail and I am now somewhat concerned.
    It was always sad to join up with D. with an old bowler on in shirt sleeves in the depths of wintermangling the thing and collecting to help cure something which took poor Jill in a matter of days.
    Yes, Alistair it is one of my charities, too. Are we prompting a few more coins?
