A few years ago I found Dale Young of Sedona, AZ. He does business as "Rattlesnake Magnets," and is a terrific source for Neodymiums, with the best prices I've seen:

I never would have guessed I'd find uses for a thousand magnets. . .

    The rules are quite simple.
Keep the magnetic path reluctance LOW and the ampere turns HIGH. :-)

If you're looking for an electromagnet, check out a coil for an auto air conditioning compressor clutch. They're easy to come by, relatively inexpensive, easy to mount, and pack a lot of holding power for their size.

Is it just me or what? I feel like I'm in my second childhood when I see big magnets! You'd think at some point in life the magic would go away. Here I am, able to function just fine without these magnets but now I'm trying to figure out how I could use them and how many I should get !

    Default Magnets must affect us....

I suspect anyone who suffers from toolitis, machinistism, etc. is affected by magnetic fields. Maybe related to higher iron content in the blood ????
I know I still like to play with magnets too. Break up old speakers for magnets, auto air conditioner clutches for electro-magnets, as said....

Funny situation used to exist here in Vancouver. The lower Lonsdale area used to be quite industrial with a large shipyard (I used to work there) & many smaller support industries. On E. 1 st. Street, there was a small jobbing machine shop, millwork shops, a magazine publisher (Forestry mag. "Logging & Sawmilling Journal"), Tormag Sales (sold magnets, of course) and a compass adjuster.....??? (Anyone see a problem here ?)

I always used to wonder how having a large pile of magnets for a neighbour used to affect the old guy & his "compass adjusting". Although a lot of work is done aboard ship....The guy was an old ship captain that had taken up another trade.

Gotta laugh at the world sometimes.
    Rick
