What's sad to think of is how many folks will be foolish enough to get sucked into this one. Judging by the size of it compared to the skill saw it won't have a lot of capacity. The bigger question might be, how do you tell your loved one who bought it for you thinking you could actually use it that it was not a good idea?

    1. "What the hell were you thinking?"
    2. "I thought you swore off drugs?"
    3. "Did you start drinking again?"
    4. "I know it's the thought that counts. Is that what you think of me?"

Not sure about the workshop but the standard one didn't stand up too well on NCIS last night. A quick tap from Gibbs right boot and parts and bullets went everywhere.

I wonder if it will climb up a mountain of swarf or swim through a lake of cutting oil, if not it is not much use in my little shop.

    regards

Boy, they got some B***s to even advertise this thing for a workshop situation. Would think anyone with a grain of common sense would figure that out,---- but, as Dog is pointing out, the thing will probably show up as a "gift" from a well meaning loved one and then youre gonna be stuck.

I skimmed through a 3-4 reviews of the household versions and it was rated as Pitiful!
If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something........

If I bought one the instant it saw my shop floor it would become self-aware and kill itself

I dont know,I keep up with the big chips and junk but tend to neglect dust and whatever on the floor ,so it might stand a chance in my shop to clean up the small accumulation of tracked dirt.I would be surprised though if it survived for long.

I would really be concerned though about coming in one morning and finding it had drunk all the way lube and was busy humping the rotary table.....

My son gave me one as a Xmas present. As long as I sweep the long curly chips up, it does an amazing job at cleaning up the small stuff. I am impressed how well it works. Especially with cast iron dust. This model is really a mechanical sweeper whereas the house model has a vacuum built in to it.

It is quiet and runs unattended. I just shut the door, block off the furnace area with a board and let it go for about an hour. It has semi-smarts in its little brain but goes around various chair and bench legs with aplomb. The area under my table saw has never been so clean.

Not sure I would have bought one but, knowing now how well it works, I can recommend it. Now, if I could teach it to brew and bring me my coffee!! Maybe the next version.

I got SWMBO one of the first Roombots, this from Hammecher-Schlemmer and ended up swapping worn out ones from new (their policy) about 3 times. Using them 2 hours a day just wore them out. But whem they were working the floors were never cleaner. I used to put it out in the shop and let it go - it cleaned under the shelves and behind the lathe, places I'd never go, and generally returned the floor in pristine condition. I kind of miss the 'ol robot anymore, the side brush motor went and I stopped using it. I'd expect this to work pretty well, really.

I got one of these a few months ago from woot.com for $100 and I am amazed with how well it works. Picks up sawdust, milling chips, assorted crap, and all of the little screws that you lose under things. I always empty it into a can to see what kind of treasures before I dump it into the trash. My wife bought a regular one for the house a couple of years ago (mostly for the dog hair) and it does a good job. For the right price, this is a keeper. Don't knock it until you try it.
