Default Need help with Clausing 13x36 lathe.

I am having trouble with my lathe popping out of gear at times. The lever on the top left of the machine will pop out when I have it in the left position. I hve looked in the gear box and do not see any obvious problem, no chipped gear teeth or metal in the oil. There is some wear on the splines of the shaft that the gear slides on. I have changed the oil, using the correct oil. Anybody have any ideas on what to look for?

Most Colchesters use a spring loaded ball and detent to hold the gear levers in position, maybe the spring on yours has broken. I am not familiar with the 13 x 36 that you have but a certain amount of dismantling of the headstock may be required to get at it.

There is a Yahoo Clausing/Colchester Group. There you will find a wealth of information specific to Clausing/Colchester lathes.

    Default Clausing 13X36

I have a Clausing 13X36, 1300 Lathe, and there is a BB with a spring that holds it in place, i know, i had to replace one.
The whole is greater then the sum of the parts.

Just ordered the manual from clausing. How difficult is it to replace the bearing and spring?
