Here I go again.

I'm trying to convert my SB9C to an "A". I see here a cross-slide lead screw assembly on Fleabay. I have a question.

What I did was remove the crank and the dial from the "user end", and pushed the lead screw out toward the rear of the lathe. I haven't removed the collar mentioned above. I may not need to, but I think it should at least be looked over. I haven't convinced myself that it's too difficult to make this lead screw, and I'm working on it. Is this a Bad Idea?

Thanks in advance.
