Thread: Anyone recognise this spindle taper?

    Default Anyone recognise this spindle taper?

    approx 7 degree taper, short nose with a max dia of approx 4.235", four 1/2" studs on 5.125" dia?
    It's on a fancy faceplate/boring table, the answer is academic really as I'm making up a lathe backplate to fit it.
    I'm just curious as to whether it's an old standard, or maybe a special for a special machine, it doesn't seem to fit with any of the current standards.

    No, it comes somewhere between A1-5 and A1-6, plus the tapered spindle nose would be a bit shorter than those.

    The threads on the faceplate are 1/2" BSF, though of course that has no direct bearing on the spindle spec.
